The Golden Globes Awards has donated $75,000 to the Committee to Protect Journalists, an independent, nonprofit organization that defends the right of journalists to safely report in war zones, without harm or fear of reprisal.
“As we have done previously during the Afghanistan and Ukraine conflicts, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support the courageous journalists who take tremendous personal risks to shed light on events and keep the world informed,” Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne said in a letter sent to her membership and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

The letter added the Committee to Protect Journalists was essential to ensuring “vital work in reporting from conflict zones.” The Israel–Hamas conflict was sparked on Oct. 7 by the Palestinian terrorist organization attacking settlements in southern Israel, an incident that claimed the lives of around 1,400 people.
In retaliation, Israel declared a formal war on Hamas, which includes airstrikes into Gaza. As of Oct. 18, the Committee to Protect Journalists reports at least 17 journalists — 13 Palestinian, three Israeli and one Lebanese — are among the around 4,000 people dead on both sides.
Another 11 journalists have been reported either injured, missing or detained, according to the press freedom organization.
The 81st annual Golden Globe Awards is set to take place on Jan. 7, with nominations set to be announced Dec. 11. The Golden Globes Awards are owned and produced by Dick Clark Productions, which in turn is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge that also owns The Hollywood Reporter.
The Golden Globes letter to members runs below:
Dear Golden Globe Voter,
We share in the profound sadness and horror felt in the aftermath of the tragic and deeply hurtful events unfolding in Israel and Gaza. We wish to express our deepest sympathies for the victims, innocent individuals who are suffering, and those who have lost loved ones or have loved ones in danger.
As we have done previously during the Afghanistan and Ukraine conflicts, we remain steadfast in our commitment to support the courageous journalists who take tremendous personal risks to shed light on events and keep the world informed. The Golden Globe Foundation is making a donation of $75,000 to the Committee to Protect Journalists, furthering our support for their vital work in reporting from conflict zones.
We continue to hope for peace and an end to the violence.
Sincerely,
Helen
